What is Euroshield rubber roofing?
Euroshield makes roofing from recycled rubber, moulded to look like cedar shake or slate. It carries a Class 4 impact rating under UL 2218, the top rating in that test. For Calgary homes that see hail most summers, that makes rubber one of three impact-resistant roofs we offer, along with Class 4 asphalt shingles and steel.
We price all three side by side on one visit, so you can see the differences for your own home.
- Looks like cedar shake or slate
- Class 4 impact rating
- Made from recycled rubber
- Priced beside shingles and steel

Cedar shake to Euroshield rubber roof replacement
Many older Calgary neighbourhoods have cedar shake roofs, from Mount Royal and Elbow Park to Britannia. When a shake roof is worn out, rubber keeps a similar look without the upkeep of real wood. We tear off the old shakes, check the deck, and put down new underlayment and flashing before the rubber goes on. The photos here are from a shake-to-rubber job we did in Cochrane, taken at its one-year visit.
With Alberta’s freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt shingles usually need replacing at around 15 years, and cedar shake can last a bit longer. An inspection tells you exactly where your roof stands.
- Tear-off to the deck
- New underlayment and flashing
- Skylights and vents flashed in
- One-year check after install
Rubber, metal or Class 4 shingles?
All three handle hail better than standard shingles. Here is how they differ, and you can pair any of them with new siding.
Euroshield rubber
Looks like shake or slate. Class 4 impact rating. A good match for character homes.
Steel
Sheds snow and lasts for decades. Standing-seam and exposed-fastener profiles.
Class 4 asphalt shingles
The impact-rated version of the shingle roof most Calgary homes already have.
Siding to match
James Hardie fibre cement, vinyl or metal siding, on the same quote as the roof.
Rubber roofing questions
Still deciding between rubber and steel? Call (403) 333-0319 and ask.
Is Euroshield rubber roofing good for hail?
Euroshield carries a Class 4 impact rating under UL 2218, the highest rating in that test. No roof is hail-proof, but Class 4 products are built to take hits better than standard shingles.
Does rubber roofing look like real cedar shake?
From the street it looks very close. Euroshield makes shake and slate styles in several colours, and we can bring samples to your home.
Can you replace my cedar shake roof with rubber?
Yes. Cedar shake to Euroshield rubber roof replacement is one of the jobs we do. We remove the old shakes, check the deck and install the new roof.
How does a rubber roof handle ice dams?
They come from warm air melting snow that refreezes at the cold eaves. On every replacement we install ice and water membrane at the eaves and check the ventilation, whatever roof you choose.
Do you have rubber roof photos from Calgary?
Our rubber roof photos are from a job in Cochrane, just west of Calgary. We install Euroshield across Calgary as well.
