Standing seam over dormers
Why standing seam is different
Exposed-fastener metal is screwed through the face of the panel. Standing seam is not. Each panel clips to the deck and locks to the next one along a raised seam, so the steel can expand and contract through Calgary’s chinooks without stressing the screws.
Snow slides off cleanly, the roof does not burn or rot, and a metal roof is often the last roof a house needs.

Valley and trim detail
The trim is where it counts
Valleys, eaves, rakes and wall flashings are bent to fit your roof, so every edge is tight. We add snow guards over doors and walkways, so snow comes off where you want it, and steel sheds snow before ice dams can build.
With Alberta’s freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt shingles usually need replacing at around 15 years, and cedar shake can last a bit longer. A metal roof breaks that cycle, which is why many owners make the switch at replacement time.

Is a metal roof loud in the rain?
Over a solid deck with underlayment, most people notice little difference from shingles inside the house.
Does snow slide off all at once?
It can, so we install snow guards over doors, decks and walkways.
Can standing seam go over my old shingles?
We prefer to tear off to the deck so we can check the boards and install proper underlayment.
Will it rust?
The panels are coated steel. Scratches from foot traffic are the main risk, so we keep traffic on the roof to a minimum.
