Roof Ventilation Upgrade with Roof Replacement in Calgary

A new roof only lasts as long as the air under it allows. When we replace your roof, we check and balance the intake and exhaust vents so heat and moisture can escape.

Why venting matters for your roof

Warm, damp air from the house rises toward the underside of the roof deck. Without enough exhaust at the top and intake at the soffit, it condenses on the underside of the deck in winter. Frost, damp insulation and mould follow, and shingles bake from below in summer.

Poor airflow is also behind most ice dams, because a warm deck melts snow that refreezes at the cold eaves.

  • Less frost and condensation
  • Cooler upper rooms in summer
  • Shingles last longer
  • Fewer winter leaks

New vent and flashing

Balanced, not just added

More vents are not always better. We work out how much intake and exhaust your roof needs, then install the right mix of box, ridge or power vents with new flashing. Blocked soffit intake gets opened up so air can flow from eave to ridge.

With Alberta’s freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt shingles usually need replacing at around 15 years, and cedar shake can last a bit longer. Good venting helps a new roof reach the end of its warranty.

  • Exhaust sized to the roof
  • Soffit intake opened
  • New flashing on every vent
  • Bath fans vented outside

Ventilation questions

Seeing frost or damp spots? Call (403) 333-0319.

Yes, but it is simplest to fix while the roof is open during replacement.

Frost on nails in winter, damp insulation, a musty smell, or upstairs rooms that stay very hot in summer are common signs.

It depends on the roof. A long ridge suits a ridge vent. Hip roofs with short ridges often need box vents.

Yes. Most manufacturers require proper ventilation for the full warranty.
