When vinyl siding needs replacing
Vinyl gets brittle in the cold. A hailstorm or a stray puck can crack panels, and years of sun fade the side that faces south. Once panels are cracked, water can get behind them.
Matching a few new panels to faded old ones rarely looks right, so most owners replace full walls or the whole house.

Replacing both lets us flash each roof-to-wall joint while the siding is off, and those joints are where ice dams leak on lower roofs.
