Signs your shingle roof is done
Shingles wear from the top down. Granules wash into the eavestroughs, tabs curl or lift, and the roof starts to look patchy from the street. Once that happens, more repairs rarely pay off.
With Alberta’s freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt shingles usually need replacing at around 15 years, and cedar shake can last a bit longer. Whole streets in Calgary are reaching that point at the same time, which is why you may see several roofs going on near you.

Tear-off to finished ridge
We remove every layer down to the deck so we can see the boards. Soft or broken sheathing is replaced, then we install synthetic underlayment, ice and water protection at the eaves, valleys and walls to guard against ice dams, new drip edge, flashing and vents.
Shingles go on with a nailing pattern set by the manufacturer, so the warranty holds. Magnets sweep the yard for nails before we leave.

Do you put new shingles over the old ones?
No. We always tear off to the deck so we can check the boards and install proper underlayment and flashing.
Which shingle brand do you use?
We are a Malarkey Emerald Pro™ contractor and install other major brands on request.
Will hail damage my new roof?
Standard shingles can bruise in large hail. If that worries you, a Class 4 impact-rated shingle is the upgrade to look at.
Do I need to be home?
No. We need access to the yard and an outlet, and we will keep you updated through the day.
