Bent eavestrough

When eavestroughs need replacing

Older eavestroughs are often joined every few metres, and every joint is a place to leak. Hangers pull out of soft fascia, runs lose their slope, and water pools instead of draining. In winter that standing water freezes and adds weight.

Once the troughs are bent, split or pulling away, new seamless runs cost less over time than chasing leaks.

  • Leaking joints and corners
  • Sagging or pulled-away runs
  • Overflow in heavy rain
  • Water pooling by the foundation

Eave edge and trough

Best done with the roof

The roof edge, drip edge and eavestrough all work together. When we replace them in one project, the drip edge laps into the trough properly and the fascia behind it gets checked. Ice and water protection at the eaves helps where ice dams form.

With Alberta’s freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt shingles usually need replacing at around 15 years, and cedar shake can last a bit longer. If your roof is close, it makes sense to plan both together.

  • Drip edge lapped into the trough
  • Fascia checked behind
  • Downspouts away from the house
  • One crew, one clean-up

Eavestroughs, soffit and fascia

The roof edge is one system. These services are often done together.

Soffit behind the trough

If the overhang is stained or unvented, the soffit is usually next.

Fascia that holds the hangers

Soft boards cannot hold new troughs, so we check them first.

Bigger buildings

Condo blocks and commercial roofs need larger runs and planned access.

A new roof above it

Shingles of every grade, standing-seam steel, cedar shake or Euroshield rubber.

Walls below it

Hardie board, vinyl or steel siding if the walls are tired too.

The trough is formed on site in one piece for each run, so there are no joints along the length to leak.

Yes. New downspouts are part of every eavestrough replacement, placed so water drains away from the house.

Yes, on dry days. Spring through fall is easiest.

If water is draining toward the house, we move or extend them.
